Tianfu Square

Introduction

Tianfu Square, located at No 86, Section 1, Renmin South Road, Chengdu, Sichuan, was completed in 2007. It serves as both the political and cultural center of Sichuan province and Chengdu city, as well as a major transportation hub. Covering an area of 88,000 square meters, the square is rectangular in shape, with a length roughly 1.5 times its width. The ground is paved with light-colored granite slabs.

Architectural Features

The design of Tianfu Square features a Taiji cloud diagram, representing the Taoist yin-yang symbol. At the center of the Taiji pattern is a giant Sun God Bird, inspired by the sun bird unearthed from the Jinsha site. The design reflects the ancient myth of the "Golden Crow carrying the sun," symbolizing the eternal vitality of life. The Fish-eye Dragon Fountain draws on the cultural symbolism of the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, symbolizing the rise of a new era. The Yellow Dragon Cloud Waterfall, inspired by the Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong scenic areas, uses terraced landscaping to create a stunning waterfall effect.

Festivals and Events

As one of the most iconic public squares in Chengdu, Tianfu Square is the place to be for National Day celebrations. Every year during holidays, the square is adorned with colorful lights and flowers, and crowds gather from all directions to take a group photo.
